In the Best category, up first we have Paris Jackson. Not only did she wear an outfit that actually made sense but she ...actually made sense. The late and great Micheal Jackson's daughter was presenting the winner for the Best Pop video and took the audience at the show as well as nationwide by surprise. She called out against the neo-nazi and white supremacists that stormed the peaceful protests in Charlottesville, VA earlier this month. She proclaimed on the VMAs stage, "As a nation with liberty as our slogan we must
show that we have zero tolerance for their violence, their hatred and their discrimination! We must resist!" I support her statement and her decision to choose that moment to use her platform to speak out against our nations worsening civil rights issues. I wasn't the biggest fan of her ensemble but it is definitely one of her better looks. She was wearing a Christian Dior dress from the 2018 Resort collection which featured intricate floral embroidery.
Now y'all know I couldn't leave my good sis, Ms. Normani Kordei out now. She always comes all the way through with her red carpet looks. She looked stunning in a LaBourjoisie black sequined see-through gown. I feel bad for her "co-workers"? I honestly don't even know what to call them because they've been living in Normani's shadow for so long. They must like it . I won't be rude, The Harmonies (Let's just go with that ...) still look beautiful. I can't wait for her to break off on to her solo career, I know it's coming.
All I have to say is, it's a no for me sis. I am not a fan of bringing your pets to your red carpet appearance which has landed Lil Mama as the "Mess" of the week. We were all rooting for you Lil Mama. All Summer '17 she's been giving us reinvented and "I've finally put me residuals to good use" looks. She definitely has been slaying. Not to say this look is her worst but definitely wasn't her best. She better quit while she's ahead or stop making decisions about what she's going to wear before her stylists texts her back. Shoutout to her progress though.
Lastly, I take my hat off to Teyana Taylor. She was probably the most casually dressed celeb that hit the carpet that night which made her one of the best looks in my opinion. Not only did she pay respects to the unparalleled Janet Jackson who wore a similar outfit to the VMAs in 1995, she accepted the same award as Janet, for Best Dance Video. Teyana has shown us within the last two years that she did not come to play, with her breakout performance in Kanye West's video "Fade" as well as appearing on t.v. shows and releasing Fade2Fit her own fitness program/brand. She put us all shame, showing off her no less than perfect body in the most subtle yet very sexy way. All while slaying motherhood with her precious daughter Junie. I am here for every last bit of it! She kept it simple and wore a white short sleeved crop top and black wide-legged pants.
